Tanguar Haor is a vast seasonal wetland near the Indian border and a Ramsar-listed site of international importance. In the monsoon it becomes an inland sea dotted with swamp trees and village islands, with the Meghalaya hills rising behind.
Houseboat trips are the classic way to see it: swimming off the deck at the watchtower, rowing between trees and sleeping on the water. In winter the water recedes and migratory birds arrive.
